Red Gold Saffron
Saffron, the king of spices! Saffron belongs to the family of irises. Not only the very subtle aroma and the intense colour are unique but, also the very elaborate cultivation. Saffron only flowers once a year for then only for approximately two weeks. During this time each stigma, of which each flower only has three, is hand picked and then dried. One farmer alone can harvest about 70 grams a day in this manner.
